Novena Prayer for Christmas
Infant Jesus, your greatest joy is to dwell among us and bestow your blessings upon us. So many who turned to you with confidence have received graces and had their petitions granted.
I come to you and lay open my heart to you, with its prayers, petitions, hopes, and thanks. Govern me and do with me and mine as you wish, for I know you will arrange everything for the best.
In the name of Mary, who cared for you with such tenderness, and by reverence with which St. Joseph carried you in his arms, grant these petitions, that I may bless and thank you forever with all my heart. Amen.
Prayer on Christmas Morning
Help us rightly to remember the birth of Jesus, that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds and the worship of the wise men. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing that Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.
May the Christmas morning make us happy to be thy children and the Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
Prayer on Christmas Day
Please bless the almost endless list of relative and friends which I present. And see to all their needs and keep them safe. And fill each heart with peace and sweet content. With skillful hands mend every broken thing. Shine up the dreams that sometimes seem to fade. Strengthen faith and guide the faltering steps of all the little creatures you have made.
Dear Lord, bring light into a weary world. Renew each hope and take into account the patterns of our not-so-perfect lives. Forgive our sins whatever the amount. Turn our thoughts toward things of lasting worth. Show us the folly of a wasted day. Teach us to come to You…no stone so great that you cannot remove it from our way.
Dear Lord, another Christmas Day is ours, and if You will, another brand new year. Walk with us, for how easily we tend to sometimes wonder what we’re doing here. Good and gentle Jesus, faithful Friend, in you all things, and so the night departs, and love awaits beyond the journey’s end.
Emmanuel, God-With-Us
As we celebrate Your birth in this season of Christmas, we pray that You may be born anew in our hearts. Help us to see Your face more clearly in our brothers and sisters so that we can serve one another with greater love and compassion. Reflecting on the miracle of Your birth, may we rediscover the wonder and beauty of all human life, as every stage of existence. May the peace of Your presence spread throughout the world this Christmas season. Amen.
Be Born In Us Incarnate Love
Take our flesh and blood and give us Your humanity;
Take our eyes and give us Your vision;
Take our minds and give us Your pure thought;
Take our feet and set them in Your path;
Take our hands and fold them in Your prayer;
Take our hearts and give them Your will to love.
Jesus, True Man and True God, Welcome to Earth
I praise You with the angels. I worship You with the shepherds. I give You the gift of my life with the Magi. I place my personal novena intention in your manger. I bring also my family, friends, and all the needy, lost and forgotten people of the world. Thank You for salvation. Thank You for the faith that helps us recognize You. Thank You for being YOU, the most perfect Love ever.
O Jesus I Desire to Love You…
I desire to love You as Your holy mother, as Your foster-father loved You. O that I could love You with their humility, their fidelity, their purity, confidence and love!
My Infant Savior, grant to me these virtues.
–From St. John Neumann’s Diary
Jesus, Word Made Flesh, I Adore You
I stand before Your mystery with faith and awe. Only your grace makes possible my belief in You. Only Your love opens me to the profound understanding needed to appreciate who You are. I bow in adoration.
Jesus, walk with me in the many difficulties, big and small, that I face each day. Help me to see life from Your point of view. May love be the outcome of whatever I do. Remember my special intention in this novena and fill every person with whatever good is needed.
O Jesus, be reborn in my heart and in every heart. Holy Mary, Mother of Jesus and my Mother, pray for me. Amen.
Prayer for a New Year
Dear Father, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. We lose ourselves in awe before the unmeasurable majesty you possess. As we measure a small bit of time in this New Year that is just beginning, we can remember that a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday. Nevertheless we can place this New Year before you, being promised that each moment of time your care continues. In the days to come may we serve in faithfulness and in honor. Keep us in the abiding grace of Christ, so that when our days terminate in the fullness of eternity, we may be among your saints forever.
This we ask in the name of Christ Jesus Your Son and our Lord, Amen.
Epiphany Prayer
O God, our Father, through the gift of Your Holy Spirit You have caused a star to shine in our hearts, leading us to Jesus Christ, Your Son and our Savior. Grant us eager feet to follow where the star of Your holy Word leads us.
Make us willing to bring our gifts and offerings to the infant Savior as did the Wise Men of old.
Draw us more and more to be the light of Your holy Gospel. Made us lights in the world and a people showing forth Your praises, for You have called us out of darkness to be witnesses to Jesus Christ our Lord and Redeemer. In His holy Name we pray. Amen.
Prayer to the Holy Spirit
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful and kindle in them the fire of Your divine Love. Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created and You shall renew the face of the earth. Let us pray. O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit has taught the hearts of the faithful, grant, that by the assistance of the same Holy Spirit, we may ever walk in the path of righteousness and ever rejoice in His consolation, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Prayer to Our Blessed Mother
Blessed Mother, our Lady of the most Blessed Sacrament, be with me a this time which I am spending in the presence of your divine Son. I ask you to be my companion and to help me. Reveal your divine Son to me, O Mary. Make me love Him as you did and inspire me to live for Him. Amen.
Spiritual Communion
Most loving Jesus, I adore You with a lively faith. You are present in this Sacrament by virtue of Your infinite power, wisdom, and goodness. Although conscious of my unworthiness, I place all my hope in You. I love You, O Lord, with all my heart and I desire to receive You now spiritually. Come therefore, O Lord, to me in spirit. Feed me, for I am hungry; strengthen me, for I am weak; enliven and sanctify me with Your sacred Body and Blood. Deliver me from all sin and make me always obedient to Your commands. Let me never be separated from You, my Savior, who with the Father and the Holy Spirit live and reign one God forever and ever. Amen.
At a Visit
My Lord Jesus Christ, for the love which You bear to men, You remain night and day in this Sacrament full of compassion and of love, awaiting, calling, and welcoming all who come to visit You. I believe that You are present in the Sacrament of the Altar:I adore You from the abyss of my nothingness, and I thank You for all the graces which You have bestowed upon me and in particular for having given me Yourself in this Sacrament, for having given me You holy Mother Mary for my advocate, and for having called me to visit You in this chapel.
I now salute Your most loving Heart: and this for three ends: 1. In thanksgiving for this great gift; 2. To make amends to You for all the outrages which You receive in this Sacrament from all Your enemies; 3. I intend by this visit to adore You in all the places on earth in which You are the least revered and the most abandoned.
My Jesus, I love You with all my heart. I grieve for having so many times offended Your infinite goodness. I promise with Your grace never more to offend You in the future. Now, miserable and unworthy though I be, I consecrate myself to You without reserve; I give You my entire will, my affections, my desires, and all that I possess. From now on dispose of me and of all that I have as You please. All that I ask of You and desire is Your holy love, final perseverance, and the perfect accomplishment of Your will. I recommend to You the souls in purgatory; but especially those who had the greatest devotion to the most Blessed Sacrament and to the Blessed Virgin Mary. I also recommend to You all poor sinners.
My dear Savior, I unite all my affections with the affections of Your most loving Heart; and I offer them, thus united, to Your eternal Father, and beseech Him in Your name to vouchsafe, for Your love, to accept them. Amen.
–St. Alphonsus Liguori
Prayer of Cardinal Newman
Dear Jesus, help me to spread Your fragrance everywhere I go. Flood my soul with Your Spirit and Life. Penetrate and possess my whole being so utterly that my life may only be a radiance of Yours. Shine through me and be so in me that every soul I come in contact with may feel Your presence in my soul. Let them look up and see no longer me but only Jesus! Stay with me and then I shall begin to shine as You shine, so to shine as to be a light to others. The light, O Jesus, will be all from You; none of it will be mine. It will be You, shining on others through me. Let me thus praise You in the way which You love best, by shining on those around me. Let me preach You without preaching, not by my words but by my example, by the catching force, the sympathetic influence of what I do, the evident fullness of the love my heart bears for You. Amen.
Prayer for Vocations
O Holy Spirit, Spirit of wisdom and divine love, impart Your knowledge, understanding, and counsel to youth that they may know the vocation wherein they can best serve God. Give them courage and strength to follow God’s holy will. Guide their uncertain steps, strengthen their resolutions, shield their chastity, fashion their minds, conquer their hearts, and lead them to the vineyards where they will labor in God’s holy service. Amen.
